01 / THE ORIGIN STORY
✳Free money. Five BTC at a time. Almost nobody took it seriously.
On June 11, 2010, Bitcoin developer Gavin Andresen introduced a faucet to help curious newcomers try Bitcoin for themselves. Visitors solved a CAPTCHA, entered a Bitcoin address, and received 5 BTC.
Andresen reportedly seeded it with 1,100 BTC. Historical overviews estimate around 19,700 BTC were distributed over its lifetime. A tiny experiment became one of crypto’s most unforgettable origin stories.
Historical figures are reported estimates, not independently verified token metrics. $FAUCET is a community meme-token concept inspired by this history and is not affiliated with Gavin Andresen or Bitcoin Core.
